Our success in delivering English language programmes will lead to students’ continuing development as they climb their individual career ladders. We provide English instruction under a wide variety of headings to students of varying backgrounds and with a multiplicity of end objectives.Students may join courses at any stage throughout the year. Edgewater College provides assistance in obtaining Irish study visas for non-EU residents. Please note that if non-EU students want to be permitted to work part-time, they need to apply for a minimum of a one year course: Thorough assessment is provided for each student using internationally recognised tools.

Small classes (maximum 15 per class) ensure personal attention for each student, and each course is relevant to the professional area of the student in response to the specific and special needs of the individual. All of our teachers are University Graduates with Post-Graduate qualifications in English as a Foreign Language. Many have experience of living and working in different countries.

All Edgewater College English courses are based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference).

The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) is a common European framework for language learning, teaching and assessment. It describes in a comprehensive way what language learners have to learn to do in order to use a language for communication and what knowledge and skills they have to develop so as to be able to act effectively. The description also covers the cultural context in which language is set. The Framework also defines levels of proficiency which allow learners’ progress to be measured at each stage of learning and on a life-long basis. It also provides a basis for the mutual recognition of language qualifications, thus facilitating educational and occupational mobility.

Rather than using ambiguous terms such as elementary, intermediate etc. that mean different things to each teacher, the CEFR provides clear ‘can-do’ descriptors for 6 distinct levels.

All students will be tested before going to class and will join a class suited to their level. Our students are subject to ongoing assessment by the teachers and will move up to the next level when the teacher feels he/she is ready to.
