TRAINEE TESTIMONIAL
“The course was brilliant, you’re given an opportunity to develop your teaching skills with the help of other teachers who have on the job experience. It was a difficult 4 weeks but you’re learning so much that the times flies. The students were great fun and I enjoyed teaching the most. There is a lovely atmosphere in the college and all of the staff are friendly and helpful. I would recommend the course to anyone who wants to teach, it was an enjoyable experience.”

Edgewater College allows you to become a fully recognised, qualified teacher of English in Ireland and abroad. Many weekend and online courses (i-to-i etc) only allow you to teach abroad, Edgewater College offers you the opportunity to get a qualification enabling you to teach in Ireland and any country abroad.
To teach in the recognised English language teaching sector in Ireland teachers need to have a minimum of a Level 7 qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications (www.nqf.ie) and also an ACELS recognised (www.acels.ie) English language teaching qualification. Edgewater College on Merchant’s Quay in Drogheda is the only school in Louth to run the TEFL course which is recognised by ACELS (Advisory Council of English Language Schools) who work under the auspices of the Department of Education and Science in Ireland.
The course which is run on a full-time basis over 4 weeks, Monday – Friday from 09.00 – 17.30 consists of 120 hours face to face contact, including seminars, workshops, and teaching practice.
The main advantage of this course when compared to weekend and online courses is that it’s conducted face-to-face with fully qualified, experienced English language teachers which gives the trainees access to real life teachers should they have any questions, something which is impossible with online courses. The course also includes teaching practice with real language learners which gives the learner exposure to the reality of teaching English – something many online and weekend courses don’t offer.
But most importantly, the course allows participants to teach both in Ireland and abroad with a recognised qualification which is highly sought after.
