“The most interesting thing in the college is the staff, they are really friendly and make you feel like you are part of their family, and also making new friends from all over the world. The town is lovely with a really good beauty of nature. The people are really friendly and always ready to help if you need or ask for help. I have been here for 6 months now and for sure I’ve learned a lot of new things, on the other hand especially about Irish tradition and culture which I really like. I would definitely recommend Edgewater College. I think all schools can be the same but in my opinion the teachers and staff make such a difference here at Edgewater. For example, my lovely teacher “Margaret”, she is so sweet and really always ready to help. Also for the all the other staff, they are always friendly and helpful”.

"My name is Ana Ibiza. I am from Seville, Spain. I am forty years old and I work for the Ministry of Treasury in Spain. They gave me a scholarship to improve my English and this is the reason why I am here. I chose Drogheda to study English because I wanted a place close to Dublin Airport but not as big as Dublin. Also I didn’t want to meet other Spanish students so I definitely decided to come to Drogheda when I knew that most of the students at Edgewater College were not from Spain.
I have done two weeks of General English and six hours of ‘one to one’ in Legal English and I enjoyed them a lot. I think Edgewater College’s teachers are really good because they are not boring and this is something important when you spend a lot of time at school. I believe that in this short period of time, I have improved my English a lot.
I have visited Dublin and Belfast and I think Irish people are very friendly. I live with a host family and I feel like I am at home. I thank you Irish people for helping me to enjoy my stay in this wonderful country."

“The course was brilliant, you’re given an opportunity to develop your teaching skills with the help of other teachers who have on the job experience. It was a difficult 4 weeks but you’re learning so much that the times flies. The students were great fun and I enjoyed teaching the most. There is a lovely atmosphere in the college and all of the staff are friendly and helpful. I would recommend the course to anyone who wants to teach, it was an enjoyable experience.”

My name is Nalan Topçu. I am from Turkey. I am 25 years old. I came to Ireland to improve my English and I chose Edgewater College for my studies. I am very glad to be here because teachers are very friendly and helpful.
I am living with my brother and his wife. They have three children. My sister-in-law is Irish and she supports me very much. I am having a great time with them. I get good practice to speak with my sister-in-law.
I like Ireland very much because it is quiet and safe. The people are very friendly. The English language is an international language. It is very important to speak English in Turkey. It is much easier to find a job. Also I am living in a touristic place. Many Irish and English tourists go there. I will be able to talk with them next year. The reason why I am in Ireland is to learn another language. Because one language is one person, two languages are two people."

“I have been here at Edgewater College for 6 months. I enjoyed studying here. My favourite thing about Drogheda is the people and the college. Also the views of the river Boyne and the history of Drogheda town. The biggest differences between here and Libya include the weather and the language. Also the road conditions, driving on the right side of the road. I learned how to speak and write English. Before I came here I did’nt know what to expect, but when I came to this college I was surprised to see the teaching experience is exactly the same as in Libya. For example, a teacher/student/classroom situation. Thanks to everyone in Edgewater College for all the support. Thank you.”

Drogheda is a very nice place to live, and I find the people very friendly and co-operative. "I was here for 1 week in April 2008. It was my first time in Ireland, so it was a first trip-nice and perfect. My favourite bit was the bowling and friends I made. My host family was perfect and their children were very nice. When I wake up my family make my lunch and I have breakfast with the children. When I come back I play with the children and their friends and I go out with the group. I have a room with a bed, computer etc. On the sofa there is a cat, his name is Twingo and out in the kennel there is a dog. At night, I watch TV. I eat pasta, chips, hamburger and pizzas."

“We are Brazilians and we started studying at Edgewater College in March 2008. We have been here for 2 years. We started studying General English and now we are preparing to do the FCE Test in June. Studying here for us has been a great experience, the teachers are excellent and the staff as well. We always meet with people from different countries and this is good, by the way we learn more about different cultures. The last changes at the College have been excellent, because now we have four classes every day with three different teachers and this has helped us to improve more our English.
Life in Drogheda is totally different from life in Uberlândia, Brazil. Here is calmer because Drogheda is a small town compared to our home town and the weather here is cold but we like it, because normally in Brazil is always hot. We like the food here, travelling around the country, shopping and our plan is to live in Ireland for quite a while. In Ireland we found good friends and our will is to have more and more friendships.
Thank you Edgewater College for helping us to speak good English!”

“So far I am here for 2 years and 3 months. The best bit about the college is the many different class times and different levels. Drogheda has many shops, a train station, bus station and it’s own immigration station. The weather in Ireland is very different to my city in the south of China because in my city it’s very warm. I learned many things when I was here, English language, culture of Ireland, also many different work experience in Ireland etc. I’d like to tell my friends about Edgewater College in Drogheda if they come to Ireland because this place is a mixed school and you can make lots of foreign friends from other countries”.

The best bit for me about the college is the teachers, my teacher was very good. I like the town of Drogheda and it has many historical places. For me, the weather here was not good, it is not like in Brazil. But now I am going to Kenya for 2 years so the weather will be better, I hope!

“My name is Roxanne Cariou. I’m twenty-one years old and a few months ago, I had the opportunity to go to Drogheda, Ireland to lead a group of about twenty-five teenagers willing to improve their English and discover Ireland. There, I was welcomed very nicely by the organizers, the teachers and my host-family. For two weeks, I have been leading the students through the lessons and above all the activities and I also toured the area with the family. I was very pleased by the students’ enthusiasm about the lessons given by a very nice and dynamic teacher and the activities both cultural and entertaining though Drogheda and Dublin. All I can say about this trip is that everything was very well organized and pleasant. The students and I have been glad to discover Ireland with these friendly Irish people and I’m really looking forward going back to Ireland again.”

“I arrived in Ireland on 22nd April. I worked for a family in Bettystown at first but I had too many expenses (travel costs, language classes, food on my days off). .So I left the Au-Pair family, I was happy and desperate in the same time. But I was lucky because by that time I met an Irish girl through an Italian girl who attended to the Edgewater College. and she rented a room out to me. From this time, I could have more lessons at Edgewater. I have to tell you that we, students of Edgewater had a quite good network and we helped and supported each other. So this was definitely an advantage of Edgewater. The teachers at Edgewater were very good without exception. I got to meet Margaret, John and Caroline. The best teachers for my level were Sharon and John, especially Sharon who does a lot for all the international people at school.:)The classes are not expensive and it's a good thing that they're flexible according to the constant changes of students.I had one of the best experiences in my life. It was a 100% groove:) Every Irish was very friendly with me, I became attached to them, really.:) Me and the Irish girl who I lived with became friends very quickly. We still keep in contact and she may comes to Hungary to see me & Budapest.
Wishing you all the best,
Szilvia"

“It was a rainy day when I found Edgewater College; I was looking for somewhere to do my IELTS practice. It has been almost two months since I began studying at this college and I have found it to be very helpful and interesting. People are friendly, in particular Caroline my teacher and my fellow students.
Drogheda is an attractive town on the north east port of Ireland, people are nice but they drink too much, which is different than my own people and country. In our country the inhabitants are 100% Muslim so any form of alcohol is prohibited, but there are some similarity too such as hospitality is prevalent in most Irish families which I have experienced.”

There was a very nice and friendly atmosphere in the class. My favourite thing about Drogheda is shopping, going out to restaurants and having fun with my Irish friends. The differences between Ireland and my country are the weather, food, money, life style, but I’m not complaining.”

“ Well, I’ve been studying at this school for 4 months and I’m enjoying it a lot because my English has improved dramatically since I arrived here. I have met people from all over the world in the college and we can share our culture and knowledge, it is very interesting. My favourite thing about the town of Drogheda is the people, they are very friendly. There are also a lot of touristy places to visit, it’s a really nice and quiet place. The biggest differences between here and Brazil so far is the weather, but there are others too, for example the traditional foods, the price of clothes, cars, food and so on. I’m still learning a lot here, the teachers are very competent and teach us very well. I’m sure that I will learn much more during the time I will stay here. I would recommend this college because it’s very nice and I can see the improvement in everybody here, all the people that work here are really friendly and they are ready to help us anytime we need. I want to thank everyone for supporting me in this great school. Thank you.”

"I found this course hugely beneficial, challenging and enjoyable. It gave me plenty of invaluable teaching experience in front of two different groups of learners. It helped enhance my confidence and develop my teaching skills. The staff are friendly and extremely willing to go over and above to help. The course is very demanding at points, as it is very intense - you have to say goodbye to your weekends for the four weeks. However, it is really worth it in the end".

There is an overall friendly atmosphere which makes students like me feel at home after so far away from the family. Drogheda is a peaceful and beautiful town with friendly people. It is far away from the busy life as seen in Dublin.
I wish to settle in Drogheda if only I can get appropriate visa status. I met my husband here in Drogheda at the college, we are now married and have a baby - my life is so woven now with Drogheda and Edgewater College as I work for it now. I wish to stay and live here in the years to come. That would be my dream come true."

"This college is the best. I like my teacher Margaret very much. I am happy with her methods of teaching. She helps us to improve our skills – speaking, reading, writing and listening. "Hi, I’m Sungho Kim from Korea. I’m 28 years old. I came to Ireland to learn English and practice golf. I’m the sort of person who wants to become a professional golfer. So I practice golf everyday. I think Ireland is a golfer’s paradise. If you are interested in golf, you should try to learn and play golf in Ireland. I think it is a great country to play golf.
I came to Edgewater College to learn English. I have been studying English at Edgewater College for 2 years but it is not easy to learn English. If you want to improve your English, you can practice it in many different ways. When you live in Ireland for the first time, you could feel very bored: no friends, no place to have fun, but don’t worry, go out. You will feel welcome everywhere and you can learn English everywhere. Don’t be shy, just do it. It all depends on you!"

“At the beginning of March I decided to go to Ireland to study English and be an Au-Pair. I was very glad and impatient to start the English class: it would be the occasion to meet some people. In the first week I went to eat pizza with a Chinese boy from my class, in the following days the others students were very kind and open towards me which made my staying in Ireland very pleasant: I liked to look after the children, to spend some time with the family in the evening, to go to English class and to discover Irish landscape. After two weeks at the Edgewater Institute, I changed the class and I passed at higher level, in Margaret’s class. She is a very good teacher, competent and motivated. The other students were interested to learn quickly and the lesson was very interactive. In this class my English got on day after day. I was lucky to attend Sharon’s class for some days and to participate at interesting discussions, where I could improve my English speaking.
I want to thank Danielle, all my classmates and the Edgewater College who have helped me when I needed them and to have made my experience special”.

I will always appreciate all the teachers as they are patient, attentive and friendly.

“I completed the CELT course in July 2009 after four weeks of hard work, late nights and no going out at weekends! It was definitely challenging but this just increased the sense of satisfaction when it was all over. I enjoyed the course content, our trainers were top class and the experience of getting up and actually teaching English to students in the college was so new to me that I still can’t believe I did it! It was a great introduction to the preparations and planning that must go into giving a lesson. Our class group was made up people from all kinds of backgrounds and the atmosphere was great with everybody willing to help one another out. Our trainers were always on hand to help and advise us and everybody in the college, from the experienced teachers to the staff at reception couldn’t have been more helpful and encouraging”.
